Waikato Region Emergency Management Group
The Waikato Civil Defence Emergency Management Group is here to work with Waikato communities and oversee the delivery of emergency management services to our region.
We are a group made up of local authorities, emergency services, lifeline utilities organisations (such as electricity, phone and roading), welfare organisations (such as the Red Cross, Salvation Army and SPCA), government departments and non-government organisations.
Our group looks after 24,000 square kilometres of the central North Island - from Mount Ruapehu in the south, to the top of the Coromandel Peninsula in the north.
11 councils within the Waikato region have joined together to form a part of the Civil Defence Emergency Management Group. Each council is represented by a member who is the Mayor, the Chairperson or a Councillor.
The Waikato Regional Council administers and supports the Waikato Civil Defence Emergency Management Group, and the Coordinating Executive Group with services such as budget development and contract management.
